Quite a number of
athletes, who will run and jump at the Mladost Sports
Park in Zagreb on Monday, will come from Zurich, where
they participated in the legendary Weltklasse on Friday
and achieved very good results.
Old/new World High Jump Champion Blanka
Vlasic confirmed her good form before Zagreb Grand Prix
in Zurich, where she won for the third time in a row,
clearing 201cm in the first attempt. We also need to
mention another guest of Zagreb, world silver medallist
Anna Chicherova, who cleared 198 cm.
Olympic 100m Hurdles Champion Dawn
Harper confirmed that it was only bad luck that she
failed to win a medal at the World Championships. She
finished second in Zurich and equalled her personal
best of 12.48, which she had achieved in the semifinals
in Berlin. She is coming to Zagreb ready to challenge
Olga Shishigina’s Meeting Record of 12.60 from 1999.Delloreen
Ennis-London finished fourth with 12.62. New World 110m
Hurdles Champion Ryan Brathwaite ran 13.27 and David
Oliver 13.33.
Sprinters will dash from Zurich to Zagreb with excellent
results. Darvis Patton finished third with the season’s
best of 9.95 seconds. US Champion Mike Rodgers also
ran below ten seconds, while Michael Frater clocked
10.04 seconds. The Zagreb Meeting Record is 10.08 seconds.
Ali Bilal Mansour finished second in
the 1500m with solid 3:33.74, and Shericka Williams
third in the 400m clocking 50.40 seconds, only three
hundredths of a second slower than Vanja Stambolova’s
Zagreb Meeting Record.
